What is ThinWin?
ThinWin is our solution to lock down existing Windows clients so that they
act just like a Thin Client Terminal, restricting user access to local files and
programs.
Why ThinWin?
Companies running thin client solutions often use Windows based clients
to connect to Terminal servers (TS) using RDP or ICA. A lot of these clients are not used for
anything but connecting to a Terminal server but users still have access to local files
and programs.
LESS LOCAL SUPPORT = MONEY SAVED
By installing ThinWin the need for local support is reduced to a minimum.
Locking down clients using ThinWin will the give the users no more rights than
to launch a Terminal session.
"NO" NEED FOR MS PATCHES
ThinWin restricts access to local files and therefore keeping your clients
up-to-date with security patches from Microsoft is "not necessary".
ThinWin
compared to Thin Client Terminals
Thin Client Terminals like "Wise" and "Link" is widely used and is
getting more and more common. These Terminals add extra value to Thin
client environments as the need for local support is "next-to-nothing". However,
Terminals are almost as expensive as a buying a new PC.
By using ThinWin companies can make existing PCs into Thin Client
Terminals instead of buying new hardware.
The table below compares ThinWin features and prices to true Thin Client Terminals
like "Wise" and "Link":
|
ThinWin |
Hardware Terminals |
| Quick configuration and setup |

| Use of local Internet Browser |

| Cost of 600 clients: EUR 5.000 |
About EUR 81.000 |

What
does a ThinWin client look
like?
All the users will see is this "unbreakable" dialog-box.

"Internet Explorer"
button can be disabled\hidden. "Admin tools" is password protected by
default and access to “Local Applications”, "Local printers" and "Upgrade
ThinWin" buttons can be disabled\hidden. The user can change the GUI
language by clicking flags.
A ThinWin client that
has been locked down 100% will look like this to the users:

The "Admin-tools" window:
All default client settings can be changed
on the client by running "Admin Tools" from the ThinWin main window. Users
can change the screen resolution themselves, but access to all other ThinWin
settings and local files requires a password:

It's recommended to password protect this window as it shouldn't be accessed by
regular users.
Supported platforms,
clients and more...
ThinWin supports all Windows clients from 9.x to Win XP.
ThinWin supports ICA and RDP, but only the ICA is part of the "package".
To be able to use RDP clients the client has to be installe dmanually on all
clients. The Citirx ICA Client can be installed silently as part of the
ThinWin Roll-Out.
English, , Danish, Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian client dialogs are available today, but
additional languages will be added upon request.
